Six inches, 3,000 psi: the Ormond Beach apron detail
Ormond Beach puts the spec for a driveway-crossing walk in writing. Look at M-7, the Residential Driveway Apron, dated May 2020, on the city's Standard Construction Details page. It calls for 28-day, 3,000 psi concrete 6 inches thick over a compacted base tested to 95 percent density with a minimum LBR of 40. Where an existing sidewalk crosses the driveway, it comes out and goes back at the same 6 inches. Joints are half-inch premolded expansion joints.
We price a plain front walk at 4 inches, so the crossing is thicker and gets its own line on your estimate. The city also publishes M-3 for sidewalk, ramp and apron construction, plus SC-4A and SC-4B for sidewalks at driveways. M-7 asks for a base tested to density, not an eyeballed one, and we schedule that test before the pour. Ormond's ground runs from sand to muck, so the test result sets the base work.
