Concrete sidewalk contractor in Holly Hill: a use permit and a $2,000 a day fine
On the city strip, Holly Hill spells it out. Its code bars cutting or altering any curb, parkway or sidewalk without a permit from the development code administrator. The right-of-way page adds that any work in a city right-of-way needs a Use Permit. Dig without one and the fine is $2,000 per day. A contractor caught working without a permit must post a $1,000 bond with the Chief Building Official.
For one year after the work, the contractor also answers for damage to sidewalks and utilities. Every application carries certificates of general liability and workers comp insurance, and Port Orange Concrete Co is Fully Insured. Work on a state or county road also needs an FDOT or county permit. The city's online portal lets you search permits back to 2024, and you request inspections there. The forms are on the city's right-of-way page, and our sidewalk contractor page follows the job end to end.
Half inch joints at every edge
The sidewalk standard is Section 90-114. Concrete runs at least 2,500 psi and 4 inches thick, and 6 inches at driveways. A 1/2 inch expansion joint goes between the sidewalk and the driveway, between the sidewalk and the apron, and between the apron and the curb. Down the length of a run, expansion joints sit no more than 25 feet apart.
Those joints earn their keep. A walk poured hard against the apron has nowhere to go when it swells in July, and the corner cracks first. We set joint filler wherever the standard calls for one. The driveway crossing gets formed at 6 inches, so the thicker section lines up with the rest of the walk. A job that crosses the apron shows up on your estimate as its own line, thickness and joints included.
The Holly Hill driveway page has the numbers for the driveway side of that corner.
These are our Volusia County ranges for a concrete sidewalk contractor in Holly Hill. We pour a crossing at the driveway apron at 6 inches. Every figure comes with a free written estimate after we see the site.
