The city puts the setback rule on paper. The city's Land Development Code puts an at-grade patio 5 feet from the property line, in rear and side yards only. The median single-family lot here runs about 0.2 acre, so those 5 feet come right out of the yard you actually use. The tape comes out before we talk finish, color or price. The site plan must show each existing and proposed driveway, sidewalk and patio, with its material, its dimensions and its distance to the lot lines.
