Quick answer

About 91 percent of the city's single-family parcels sit in numbered Deltona Lakes units that average roughly a quarter acre, so a concrete retaining wall in Deltona has little room to hide. Port Orange Concrete Co builds poured and block walls inside your lot lines and easements, and we write a free estimate once we've seen the grade.

Concrete retaining wall in Deltona: ask Building Services how your wall files

Looking for retaining wall contractors in Deltona? Begin with the Building Services Division, which takes permit applications and payments through the city's online self-service portal. The city's code calls for a building permit whenever impervious material or a designated parking area is added to a residential lot. It sits in the driveway section. If your wall carries a paved terrace or a pad, ask Building Services how it files.

HB 803's under-$7,500 exemption won't get you around this. Structural work never qualifies, and a lot partly in a flood hazard area is excluded. We pour walls in forms around steel or lay block with grouted cells, and we pull the permit when the job needs one. The Volusia permits guide covers the exemption rules in full.

Quarter-acre Deltona Lakes lots and the easement line

The city has 35,669 single-family parcels in county data, and 32,357 of them sit in numbered Deltona Lakes units. Unit 32 alone holds 2,281. The big units average roughly 0.23 to 0.30 acre a parcel. A wall on a lot that size ends up near the side and rear lines, which is where recorded easements run.

The city's driveway expansion code bars any improvement in recorded drainage or utility easements. It's written for driveways, but we hold a wall to the same line. So our crew pulls your survey and checks for easements before we lay out a footing. Need to shift it to clear one? That's a drawing change, not a pour-day surprise. Our retaining walls page explains the build, and the Deltona concrete page lists the rest of what we pour here.

Retaining walls here run $25 to $45 per sq ft of wall face, poured or block, up to about 4 feet.

The free written estimate follows our site visit. Engineering, any permit fee, drainage and the pour each get a separate line.

Swales, culvert pipe and the street edge

The city's construction standards, Code Sec. 96-100, tell driveways to follow mild roadside swales and keep positive drainage. Where a swale or ditch can't be matched, a pipe goes under the driveway, minimum 15 inches in diameter, with FDOT mitered end sections in city rights-of-way. Put a wall near the street and you face the same question: once it's there, where does the swale's water go? We keep every footing off the swale line and leave the flow path open.

The driveway expansion code, Sec. 110-810, makes the permit holder answer for damage to the right-of-way: edge of pavement, turf, sidewalks, meter boxes and mailboxes. We hold a footing trench to the same standard and mark those items before we dig. Calling before you dig isn't optional either: Sunshine 811 needs at least two full business days. After that, the six steps to safe digging explain the rest.

Paola sand, lake edges and the 27 foot flood points

Here's what the ground looks like. State soil data sampled 120 points in the city, and Paola fine sand, 0 to 8 percent slopes, takes 34.2 percent. Astatula fine sand takes 13.3 percent. Both are excessively drained ridge sands. Water covers 7.5 percent, Orsino fine sand 6.7 percent and Immokalee sand 5 percent. Depressional pockets of Myakka and Basinger fine sand cover 3.3 and 2.5 percent, and those are the wet spots. By drainage class, 54.2 percent of points are excessively drained, and 72.5 percent rate not limited for dwellings without basements.

The city is inland, so beach rules and the coastal control line stay out of it. Lakes don't, and a lake-edge wall starts with the flood zone. About 40 lakes sit in or touch the city, according to Census maps, among them Lake Monroe, Lake Butler, Lake Gleason, Lake Theresa, Lake Shelby, Lake Lapanocia, Three Island Lakes, Trout Lake and Tivoli Lake. FEMA's map put 26.7 percent of sampled points in a Special Flood Hazard Area, and 17 of the 19 AE points carried a base flood elevation of 27 feet. Look up your lot on the FEMA flood map.

Drip lines and trunks: Deltona's tree yardstick

Under Code Sec. 98-32, driveways or parking can go under tree branches only if impervious surface covers no more than 50 percent of the area under the drip line, and never closer than 6 feet to the trunk. The rule covers driveways and parking, not walls. It still tells us how much room the city wants around a trunk, so we borrow it as a yardstick for a footing trench. If a wall crowds a trunk, we move it back.

Roots matter too. UF/IFAS notes that live oak roots planted too close to curbs, sidewalks or driveways can lift and crack the surface. A footing is no different. If a tree sits where your wall wants to go, we can curve the wall, step it away or shorten it. Send a photo of the trunk with your request.

From Port Orange to Deltona: blocks, near-me searches and cost

Typing retaining walls contractors near me into a search box? Port Orange Concrete Co works from Port Orange and Ponce Inlet out to Deltona. Comparing retaining blocks with poured concrete? You don't buy block on the side. It's part of the wall, and one written estimate covers block or forms, steel, grout, drain stone and labor. Short concrete retaining walls in Deltona fit a quarter-acre lot, and we price them by the same square foot of face.

Face area sets the number. Poured or block, up to about 4 feet, our Volusia range is $25 to $45 per sq ft. A 65 foot wall 2 feet high has 130 sq ft: $3,250 to $5,850. A 55 foot wall 3 feet high has 165 sq ft: $4,125 to $7,425. An 85 foot wall 4 feet high has 340 sq ft: $8,500 to $15,300. Anything taller is engineered and priced per design. Your free estimate comes in writing after we see the site.

What Our Clients Say

5.0 out of 5 from 14 Google reviews See all reviews on Google

  • I called four companies about tearing out our cracked patio and putting in a bigger one. Two never came out, one came out and never sent a number, and one texted a price with nothing else. These guys came out the next morning, measured, and the owner sat at our kitchen table and went through what he would do and why, including why he wanted it a little thicker where the grill sits. The quote matched the bill to the dollar. What stuck with me was the crew. We have a newborn at home and they kept the radio off and the noise down without us asking. They carried every bag through the side gate instead of across the lawn too. Patio came out flat and drains away from the house like it should. Real people doing honest work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the poured concrete retaining wall contractors near me in Deltona?
Port Orange Concrete Co pours concrete retaining walls in Deltona and across Volusia County, cast in forms with steel inside, and builds block with grouted cells. One crew handles the footing, drain and face. We walk the grade with you and check your survey for easements. Then you get a free written estimate with footing, drainage and face on separate lines, ready to set beside any other bid.
Can a concrete retaining wall in Deltona sit on the utility easement at the back of the lot?
The city's driveway expansion code bars any improvement in recorded drainage or utility easements, and we hold ours to that same rule. Your survey shows where the easements are. We lay the footing out inside your lot lines and clear of them. Building Services can tell you how it reads a footing near one before the engineer draws.
What happens to the swale water once a wall goes up beside the street?
It needs somewhere to go. Under Code Sec. 96-100, driveways follow roadside swales and keep positive drainage, with a pipe of at least 15 inches where a swale can't be matched. We keep a wall off the swale line. That leaves the flow path open, and nobody ends up paying to fix a damaged swale.
Does a lake lot need a flood check before I build a wall?
Yes. FEMA's map put 26.7 percent of sampled points in a Special Flood Hazard Area, and the city has about 40 named lakes. HB 803 is void on a flood-zone lot anyway. Look up your parcel on the FEMA map before the engineer draws, and send us the result so the wall and drain match.
Do retaining blocks come with the wall, or do I buy them?
They come with the wall. Block pricing covers block, steel, grout, drain stone and labor in one. A poured wall skips the block and uses forms. After we see the grade, the height and the face you want, we tell you which one fits.
Why would a concrete slab beside my wall show high moisture here?
Start with where the water goes. Roof runoff, a blocked swale or a wall with no drain can all push water to the slab edge. Deltona's sand drains fast, with 54.2 percent of sampled points excessively drained, but depressional Myakka and Basinger pockets hold water. We plan the drain pipe outlet first.
