Quick answer

Deltona writes its driveway spec into city code. Plain concrete needs at least 6 inches of thickness. A curb opening can flare no more than 5 feet past the driveway on each side. The total width stops at 24 feet. A concrete driveway contractor in Deltona builds to that. Port Orange Concrete Co gives you a free written estimate first.

Concrete driveway contractors in Deltona work from a code that names the thickness

In Deltona, the plans don't get to decide the slab details. Section 96-100 of the Code of Ordinances does. Measured at the street right-of-way line, a residential driveway is 10 feet wide at minimum and 24 feet at maximum. Along an existing paved road, it has to be paved all the way through the right-of-way. The curb opening may not exceed the driveway's width by more than 5 feet on each side. And with no reinforcement, the slab must be at least 6 inches thick.

The right-of-way approach carries its own spec. It's 2,500 psi concrete at least 6 inches thick, or 1 inch of Type S-1 asphalt. Concrete Network gives 4 inches as a driveway minimum, so a Deltona pour uses more material than a 4 inch slab the same size. We price it that way. The build itself is on our driveway page. For the rest of what we pour in town, see the Deltona hub.

Swales, 15 inch pipe and the easement you can't pave over

The code expects a driveway to follow the mild roadside swales and keep positive drainage. If the swale or ditch can't be matched, a pipe goes under the driveway, at least 15 inches in diameter, with FDOT mitered end sections in city rights-of-way. That pipe is part of the price. We find out what you need by walking the swale, not by guessing from the street.

Then there are easements. The code bars any improvement in recorded drainage or utility easements. The permittee pays for damage to the edge of pavement, turf, sidewalks, meter boxes and mailboxes. The city's fee schedule also lists a $50 right-of-way utilization fee for a single-family driveway, on top of permit fees. We check where the easements run before we dig, and the permits guide explains the locate call. One thing works in your favor: on the state soil map, Paola fine sand and Astatula fine sand cover roughly half the spots across the city. Both drain fast, and that suits a slab once the base is compacted.

Our Volusia ranges for residential driveways, run against the city's width and coverage limits.

Forty percent of the front yard, 24 feet and a permit for every added square foot

Section 110-810 covers driveway expansion, and it's blunt. Want to widen an existing driveway or add a second one? Planning and Development Services reviews that permit application. The code also requires a building permit any time impervious material or designated parking gets added to a residential lot. You can have the driveway plus room for two more parking spaces, 380 square feet or 40 percent of the front yard, whichever is less. Anything covering more than 40 percent of the front yard is prohibited. Even with an expansion, the driveway can't pass 24 feet wide, and it can't reach into the side yard setback.

Those two extra spaces, 380 square feet, price at $2,660 to $4,560 in our range. Your application has to show the materials and where the right-of-way apron goes.

Trees matter too, and concrete driveway contractors in Deltona have to plan around them. Section 98-32 lets a driveway run under a tree's branches only when impervious surface covers no more than half the area under the drip line, and never within 6 feet of the trunk.

Deltona Lakes: a city built from numbered units

Deltona is close to one big subdivision, and a new driveway there is nearly always on a Deltona Lakes lot. Numbered Deltona Lakes units hold about 91 percent of the city's 35,669 single-family parcels, and Unit 32 alone has 2,281. The largest units average roughly 0.23 to 0.30 acre per lot, so on those lots we run both numbers, 24 feet of width and 40 percent of the front yard, because either one can be the limit. The median home went up in 1988, and about 35 percent of the housing dates from the 1980s. A house built in 1988 is coming up on 40 years, and if its first driveway is still there, tear-out and replacement is worth pricing.

Deltona counts about 40 lakes in or touching it, among them Lake Monroe, Lake Butler, Lake Gleason, Lake Theresa and Lake Shelby. On FEMA's flood map, about 27 percent of spots across the city land in a flood hazard area. A lot partly in one of those areas loses the under-$7,500 permit exemption, so check your zone first. There's no beachfront in Deltona, so concrete driveway contractors in Deltona never deal with a state coastal line.

What Our Clients Say

  • I called four companies about tearing out our cracked patio and putting in a bigger one. Two never came out, one came out and never sent a number, and one texted a price with nothing else. These guys came out the next morning, measured, and the owner sat at our kitchen table and went through what he would do and why, including why he wanted it a little thicker where the grill sits. The quote matched the bill to the dollar. What stuck with me was the crew. We have a newborn at home and they kept the radio off and the noise down without us asking. They carried every bag through the side gate instead of across the lawn too. Patio came out flat and drains away from the house like it should. Real people doing honest work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do concrete driveway contractors in Deltona need a permit to widen an existing driveway?
Yes. Planning and Development Services reviews the permit application for a wider driveway or a second one, and any added impervious material on a residential lot needs a building permit. The application shows the materials and the spot where the apron sits. We file it before we book the crew.
How thick does a plain concrete driveway have to be in Deltona?
6 inches at minimum when there's no reinforcement. Through the right-of-way, the approach is 2,500 psi concrete at least 6 inches thick, or 1 inch of Type S-1 asphalt. We write the estimate to that spec, so you pay for the thickness the code sets and nothing extra.
What happens where my driveway crosses a swale or ditch?
The driveway is supposed to follow mild swales and keep positive drainage. When the swale or ditch can't be matched, at least a 15 inch pipe goes under it, with FDOT mitered end sections in city rights-of-way. We check the swale at the estimate and price the pipe into your new driveway.
Can I extend my Deltona driveway into the side yard?
No. No driveway may extend into the side yard setback, the total width can't pass 24 feet even with an expansion, and covering more than 40 percent of the front yard is prohibited. Send a sketch of your lot with its dimensions and we'll test the layout against all three limits.
What does Deltona charge for the right-of-way part of a driveway?
The city's 2026 master fee schedule lists a $50 right-of-way utilization fee for a single-family residential driveway. Building permit fees are a separate charge, and the Deltona Building Services Division can quote them. Both go into the written estimate once we know the permit path for your address, so the counter holds no surprises.
How close can new paving get to a tree in my front yard?
Under Section 98-32, a driveway may run under a tree's branches only if impervious surface covers no more than half the area under the drip line, and it stays at least 6 feet from the trunk. On the sketch we mark the drip line, so the layout respects it before we order materials and the reviewer sees it.
